Ahh the efficiency of Apple
Mar. 06, 2007 12:25 p.m.

I don't want to start a big Mac vs. PC debate here, but in my experience, Macs run smoother, have less errors, and are simpler than PCs. They also have very competent techs at Apple, which is more than can be said for some of the PC techs I've talked to.

That being said, sometimes Apple's efficency is a horrible, horrible thing.

Case in point: Yesterday, my hubby was browsing Apple's website store, checking out the new systems. In order to browse, you need to be logged in, which means that if you've placed a previous order (we have) they have stored all of your information such as shipping address, credit card number, etc.

In order to see the actual prices for things, you have to pretend to go through the process of actually ordering them.

They don't have a confirm page. Which means that yesterday, my husband accidentally ordered almost $2,000 worth of stuff from Apple.

Of course, right away we pressed the "Cancel order" button, and it said that it could not cancel our order, and could we please try again later? So we called the 800 number, where they told us "Sorry, your order is already in shipping, there's no way to cancel it now."

Us: "We just ordered it 5 minutes ago! We don't have the money to pay for this stuff!"

Them: "Sorry, we can't contact shipping to tell them to cancel the order. It's already there."

So...guess we're getting a new computer.

Too bad being homeless doesn't come with Internet hookup.
